Sue Young, program director for Junior Achievement of Michiana and Dave Bly, JA board member and Sunrise Rotarian, presented the official company charter for "Infinity - a JA Company" to Omari Kohn, president of the company.        More than 350 teachers have requested classes this year from Junior Achievement of Michiana! 120 classes are in progress or completed, with the rest scheduled to begin soon. Volunteers are needed -- please see below! JA is also partnering with Disney and the HandsOn Network to celebrate local volunteerism through the "Give a Day. Get a Disney Day." program.        Students at Martin Luther King Freshman Academy in Benton Harbor have started their own JA Company called "Infinity". They will be selling BH logo t-shirts and hoodies to their fellow students during the second semester. Currently, they are busy marketing stock in their company so they can secure the start-up money to proceed. Members of the Benton Harbor Sunrise Rotary are sponsoring this year-long program by providing volunteers who are teaching the students the basics of entrepreneurship. In the above photo, Sue Young, program director for Junior Achievement of Michiana and Dave Bly, JA board member and Sunrise Rotarian, presented the official company charter for "Infinity - a JA Company" to Omari Kohn, president of the company.

Also new this year is our partnership with the United Way of Marshall County, through which all 6th graders in Marshall County, IN, are offered JA Economics for Success, a great work readiness and financial literacy program. Currently, Riverside Intermediate in Plymouth, Walkerton Elementary, and Monterey Elementary sixth graders are learning about budgeting and the use of credit, while thinking about careers and the steps necessary to attain those careers. Other 6th graders in Marshall County will participate second semester.

New for our teachers: you can now fill out your Teacher's Survey online. Teachers, please click here!

We anticipate that over 7,500 students in Berrien and Cass Counties in Michigan and St. Joseph, Marshall and Elkhart Counties in Indiana will experience JA during the 2009-2010 school year. At this time, JA of Michiana is still working to secure funding for all the programs requested by teachers. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to JA of Michiana to help make sure that all these students are able to participate in JA's hands-on programs. Volunteer!

Can you see yourself in the role of classroom consultant for Junior Achievement?       As a Junior Achievement volunteer consultant, YOU could be instrumental in preventing a future financial crisis such as the one our country is currently facing -- just by volunteering a couple of hours a week of your time to teach kids how our economic system works!

Junior Achievement programs teach students basic business and economic concepts through proven lessons and hands-on activities in their classrooms. Programs vary by grade (K-12) and are age-appropriate and fun. Best of all, in addition to the proven curriculum provided by JA, students get the experience of a local business volunteer delivering the program!

We provide all materials, training, and support. YOU provide the enthusiasm, experience, and a role model for our students.

This year, we are expanding to provide programs in new classrooms AND new areas! To see what classes are being offered currently, please see our Program Schedule page.
